Many people can be successful
managing a website like this one. It takes an area
of public interest that you have some expertise in,
or can get that expertise in. Money comes from two
sources - Memberships, and advertising. You can
choose one or the other, or both means of income.
It can also be a good companion business for
writers, and marketers who can either use their
talents in another area, or use a second website as
a marketing tool for their products and services.
Managing a website like this can be done whether
you have the skills to set it up or not. Hiring it
done is going to cost you at least $50 to $150 (we
offer this service and train you to maintain it),
so you need to know the costs ahead of time and
consider carefully whether it will pay off. A good
informational website takes strong research skills,
familiarity with the topic on a personal basis,
good writing skills (or a good hired writer), and a
feel for the needs of your audience. A good way to
tell if a specific topic needs to be addressed is
to do a web search. I did a search once for
ADD/ADHD help, and found no practical information
on helping my child myself...It was all about how
to get someone else to handle the problem for me!
That told me that at least I had a need that was
not being met, and perhaps others did too. I
created this website after researching work at home
a number of times, and finding plenty of people who
wanted to take my money, but not many who offered
practical advice. To do this, you probably need a
computer, and web design skill or the ability to
learn it is a plus. Space is minimal unless you
choose a topic which requires a lot of
experimentation.
