Coastal Vacations

Start a Real Business. Complete instructional kit, sales aids, website, and personal assistance. Read a full independent review here.

Rating:

Level of Review: Researched.

Overview: Vacation discount package resale, plus chance to sell business to other people.

Product: Multiple Levels of Vacation discount packages. Some packages include free cruises, or accomodations, but it is mostly a discount program.

Costs: $1295 to $11,000 (depending on package), plus optional yearly renewal fees for some discount memberships. New information indicates that payment plans are available for startup costs, and that a money back guarantee is offered, but I have not been able to verify the guarantee.

Compensation: You get $1000 of the $1295 package. How much you make on the sale of more expensive packages depends on which package you purchased.

Conclusion: This is potentially an expensive venture. And this is not an easy review, because the product and issues are complex.

Red Flags:

The presentation is all about the business, nothing about the product, and the product pages refer to the business in context, meaning the company is having trouble differentiating the two.

Personal red flag - If you have to go out on a limb financially to do this, then it is more than you can afford to lose, and you should be VERY cautious.

I did some research and sifted through the site. It appears to be one of those programs where you qualify for compensation based on which package level you have purchased. And of course they'd like you to purchase the higher dollar packages yourself, so they tie your compensation to what you have purchased as well as what you have sold.

I see a few issues to be aware of with the system.

1. People are uneasy about buying vacation travel items from someone who does not have an established office or agency. This can be got around, but you'll be selling to people at first who are more likely to be DISsatisfied customers than satisfied ones. Internet sales avoid this issue, but it may be hard to sell through internet, I am not sure.

2. You will need clothing that makes you look successful before anyone will purchase from you if you sell in person. This is something to consider in startup costs. And it is ESSENTIAL. Very nice, casual clothing is appropriate. A business suit is ok also, but most suitable would be elegant casual. Some purchases may occur online, but some people are going to meet you in person as well. This is the kind of product that simply sells easier when someone can meet you because it takes a high level of trust.

3. It is still going to take time. You will have to learn the details and learn about the products. You will need to sell two packages for which you do NOT get compensation before you will get anything in return for your sales - compensation for your first two sales goes to your upline. And you'll have to learn to market well to sell the product.

4. The product is confusing. It is difficult to help people understand just what it is that they are getting. Because of that, there is some negative info out there on this company, even though it is due to misunderstandings of the product, or misrepresentation by the reseller. There is not a HUGE negative attitude like with Amway or Nu-Skin, but you will be fighting some misinformation. You'll have to make sure that your customers really understand what it is that they are getting, and that YOU understand what the product entails.

5. And finally, the fact that vacation items are just simply not an easy thing to sell. You have people who are looking for a bargain. You are asking for a large amount of money up front. People will have questions about the quality of vacation purchases. You'll have to provide people with persuasive evidence that the company can really deliver on what they promise, and that the quality or seasonal restrictions are ones they can live with. You must also target people who have TIME to travel. The more expensive packages are only suitable for people who wish to travel VERY frequently (many times a year). If you don't know people with money, you aren't going to sell any of the more expensive ones.

Anyone investigating this needs to get direct and complete answers to the following questions:

1. What does the other guy get out of signing you up? I mean, profit on two sales is not reason to sign someone else up when you can go get those two commissions with less hassle on your own without having to train someone else.

2. What are the day to day tasks that would be expected of you to succeed? Ask the guy what his average day consists of, and figure out if you can DO that, physically and mentally, and whether or not you can discipline yourself to keep doing them day after day, especially if it does not seem to be working well.

3. What training, marketing, and support materials and help is the company going to provide you? And can you learn in the way that they are teaching? (for example, I, personally, do not learn well through conference calls - I just don't like them so I resent having to do them, so I'd look for a company that used written training materials.)

4. What are the "hidden costs" of the business? Are you required to take vacations yourself? Can you print your own business cards? Do you have to purchase order forms or any other literature? Do you have to pay the company for the website? Is there a yearly membership or subscription fee that you must pay? Are there sales requirements that you have to meet to stay active?

As far as purchased business opportunities, I think this is a sound company, and I think the potential is there. But I advise caution, because this is NOT suitable for everyone. Make sure that you can actually get out and do the necessary marketing tasks to make sales before you jump in. After all, owning the product will be poor compensation for a failed business plan if you do not have the money available to even USE the product.

The available info on this company seems to be good, but there are people who have used it for scams, so that will reflect on you personally. You will have to establish your OWN reputation, independent of the company reputation. And that takes a lot of time and hard work to do - EVERY business takes time and effort. I am just emphasizing this here because some people present this package as the chance at easy money, and it is not that, any more than any legitimate business is. It is WORK, and it is a BUSINESS. If you are looking for something other than a serious business, you won't make anything off this or any other package.

This could potentially be a good money maker for the right person. It could also fail spectacularly if someone is unprepared for the reality. I recommend caution, and do not recommend this for anyone who is not extremely dedicated, and able to establish contacts with wealthy people.

Update: This review has new information pending - more details will be posted soon, you can email and ask for them if you need.

Our Rating System:

No program is right for everyone. Even a rating of four or five does not indicate that you should dive in without some careful thought and consideration. Business is still risky. All reviews have the reasons for the rating clearly defined.

 - Information presented in program is accurate and factual concerning the potential of the program, program is based on sound business principles, and has good potential to provide stable income for individuals to whom the program is suitable.

 - Information is accurately presented, company focuses on selling product, but business is either more confusing, less predictable, or slightly higher risk for one of a number of reasons. Still considered a sound company and very acceptable risk.

 - Information may be confusing or misleading, company may have significant issues with program structure, support of product, or public perception and reputation. A rating of three does not mean you should not do it. It just means you need to be sure you are suited to overcoming the difficulties that the program has.

 - Information generally misleading, risk fairly high, many unanswered questions, business principles questionable, but still has some potential for actually working for some people.

 - Cannot declare that it is an outright scam, but potential for it to work is very low. Will have questionable business theory, bad reputation, excessive hype that is not backed up by common sense, or other aspects which indicate very high risk. Will always have multiple issues, not just one thing.

 - Outright Scam. Anything labeled this way is never worth any kind of risk.
